🍄 Mushrooms, woodland textures and beating the rain at Grove Farm 📸

Last Sunday, Nigel Bewley joined a group of photographers for a session exploring the autumn at Grove Farm, focusing on mushrooms.  By slowing down, looking closely we managed to find subjects that might otherwise go unnoticed.

These are our tentative identifications, rather than confirmed records.

We’ve noticed fewer mushrooms at Grove Farm this year and believe that the prolonged dry weather and lack of rain have played a part. Moisture helps fungi to produce their visible fruiting bodies, although we can’t be certain what explains our local observations.

With fewer mushrooms to find, the textures of some of our fallen dead wood gave us more to focus on. It was a reminder that nature photography isn’t always about finding something spectacular, sometimes it’s about noticing the finer detail.

Thank you to Nigel for leading the session and to everyone who came along. It was lovely to see so many people taking time to look closely at Grove Farm and see some of the smaller jewels of the local nature reserve. 🌿
