Moth Survey - September 22

24 Sept 2022

A night in the local nature reserve

Thanks to David for supporting our first professional moth surveying night. It was great to be paying attention to all the sights and sounds of the night. Using moth traps we saw around 15 different species of moths. The most common moth right now is the square spot rustic which is commonly found on woodland edges and suburban habitats. We also enjoyed spending time in the nature reserve at night and noticing things we don't normally see - such as the sparkling slug trails on trees and we were happy to hear a tawny owl.
