Brambles, wildflowers and Slow worms
Thanks Sue, Fred, Bharti & Gordon for volunteering on Grove Farm.
First job was to sow some woodland wildflower mix in the muddy patch by the path near the new pond,
We then moved onto cutting down some suckering hawthorn which was encroaching on the field. We need the area to remain clear as an important small mammal habitat which will hopefully feed predatory birds.
We ended the session by putting out the wildlife survey mats to find slow worms. They warm up faster than the surroundings so the slow worms like to shelter under them to get warm. We will to leave them in place for some time & come by to monitor them for slow worms.
